Matteo Peterlini

The artist lives and works in Germany and Italy. In his work he engages with concepts such as repetition, differences, phenomenology and relations to bring the audience to a more ironic, contradictory and paradoxical understanding of reality. Using different types of media his work aims to go beyond the dual nature of reality, the division between right and wrong, copy and original, black and white. The public is frequently invited to actively participate, turning his works into a game of changing roles and interrogating the nature of the art work itself. Neither natural nor artificial, neither analog nor digital, neither “current” nor “historical”, but inbetween the natural and the artificial, the analog and the digital, the current and the historic. The red thread connecting his works through their different languages and media is the theme of absence, emblematically expressed through actions of switching places in order to obscure subjectivity. / Selected Exhibition / Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa, Venezia; MART Museo d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Trento e Rovereto; Galleria Civica di Arte Contemporanea di Trento; daadgalerie, Berlin; Unbuilt Roads, New York; Casa del Mantegna, Mantova; European Month of Photography Berlinische Galerie, Berlin - Bast’Art, Bratislava - Maison Européenne de la Photographie, Paris - Museum auf Abruf, Vienna - Musée d’Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean, Luxembourg - Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Rome.
